Benefits of Getting Taxes Done

Written by Michael Harvie, Staff Accountant

When tax season comes around many people wonder if they should get their taxes done by a professional, or if they should do it themselves. If your taxes are simple and you have know-how, it might be beneficial to do it yourself, provided you keep yourself up to date on current tax laws. But if you find yourself asking a lot of questions or are unsure about some things, it is a safe bet to get your taxes prepared by a professional. Here are some reasons why:

· Less risk of incurring a penalty- Your tax professional will be up to date on the current tax laws ensuring that all your taxes are covered. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not mess around when it comes to filing taxes. Save yourself some worry and possibly more headaches by handing off this duty to a professional.

· Get your questions answered- If you have any questions at all, your tax professional will be able to help you. Taxes can have some strange verbiage which can be confusing and frustrating. Your tax professional can break it down it terms that are easy to understand.

· Less hassle- Tax season can be much easier if you get your paperwork and drop it off. If you are a returning client there is no need to wait in line or even leave the comfort of your own home. Here at Old House, we use secure platforms that allow you to upload your paperwork. But if you prefer seeing us in person, we would love for you to drop by, say hello and have us get to work on your return.

· Better preparation- Since we are here to ensure you get the most out of your taxes, we also give you a heads up. If there is something you should be on the lookout for next year, we will do our best to ensure you are prepared and informed. We are open year-round and are happy to answer your questions by phone, email or in-person.

Overall getting your taxes done professionally is a great option. Filing solo can be beneficial too if you understand your situation and the filing requirements; but for more complex issues, it is a much safer to work with a professional. Taxes can be confusing, but we’re here to help. Reach out with any questions or concerns, and we will provide you with the answers you need.
